Perris, CA – Beginning Monday, Perris residents can call a new telephone number to report code enforcement issues and concerns. Perris residents may call 951-776-3233 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday to speak to code enforcement officials.

The City of Perris has contracted with Riverside County to provide code enforcement services. Under terms of the agreement, the City will be provided with four code compliant officials and supervision.

Glenn Baude, Riverside County’s Director of Code Enforcement, said his team looks forward to its new opportunity in Perris. The department will be housed at 227 North D Street. In addition to housing staff whose duties lie only in Perris, another office of county code enforcement officers also will be housed in the building.

Baude says bring City and county code enforcement officers together will help both agencies address concerns in areas in which Perris borders unincorporated Riverside County.

“What helps the City of Perris obviously helps the county and vice-versa,” Baude said. “It’s going to be a great partnership, a win-win situation. I know that’s a cliché but I think in this case it really is true.”

County code enforcement officials plan to work with Perris businesses, churches and civic groups to solicit input about how the make the City look as good as possible.

Toward that end, Baude said he hopes to work with Perris agencies to organize a volunteer corps to cut grass, pull weeds and remove trash from homes whose owners are elderly or infirmed.

He also said the new Code Enforcement Department will begin targeting illegal vendors and conducting weekend sweeps looking for code violations.

As part of the new arrangement, Manny Acueto, a longtime county code enforcement officer, has been named Perris’ new Code Enforcement Manager.

Perris officials joined Riverside County and regional transportation representatives Wednesday to cut the ribbon on the new $29 million interchange at Interstate 215 and Highway 74 (Fourth Street).

The new interchange eliminates the five-point intersection at Redlands Avenue and Highway 74. It also realigns and widens off-ramps from north and southbound I-215, widens the Highway 74 bridge over the freeway from two to eight lanes and replaces 12 traffic-clogging stop signs with five traffic signals.

Construction also included the widening of Redlands Avenue and creation of sound walls and retaining walls and an eight-foot wide sidewalk on the north side of the bridge. The project will be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. The exterior fascia includes a pattern of wrought-iron fencing and brickwork similar in color to that of the historic Depot Building. Decorative Victorian-era lights will illuminate the bridge and add to the historic feel of the City.

The scope of the work was massive. The projected includes 185,000 yards of imported dirt, 22,500 tons of asphalt concrete, 5,000 cubic yards of concrete and 850,000-pounds of rebar. Work continues on striping, installing some traffic signals and landscaping, all which should finish in March.

Measure A, Riverside County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, is credited with helping make the project possible. The project also made use of sales tax revenues and federal stimulus dollars. Ground broke on the new interchange in June 2010 and construction was completed four months ahead of schedule.
